Hanna & Brandon's Sunset Engagement Photos on Lake Ontario

I love the way that weddings are a cyclical affair. A happy couple gets married, two single people meet at the wedding, they get married, and so on. That’s the basic premise of Hanna and Brandon’s love story. They both attended Liz and Joe’s wedding in 2019, hit it off, and are now planning their own wedding! There was no better way to celebrate the occasion than with some sunset engagement photos on the shores of Lake Ontario.

Brandon is a fellow Cazenovia College graduate, so I’ve known him for a while. Not only that, but I’ve been photographing weddings for his family for years. Brandon proposed to Hanna using his grandmother’s ring— originally given to her by Brandon’s grandfather 58 years ago. Thankfully, it fit Hanna perfectly! Once the two were engaged, it was a no-brainer that they reached out to me to be their upstate NY wedding photographer. I was honored, of course!

The happy couple chose to do some sunset engagement photos in a location that was meaningful to them: Brandon’s family cottage overlooking Lake Ontario. They truly couldn’t have chosen a more perfect evening!

When Hanna and Brandon showed up for the shoot, I couldn’t help but chuckle. I don’t typically suggest that my couples both wear bright colors and bold patterns— but Hanna and Brandon are far from typical! These two were so silly the entire evening. Their stand-out outfits perfectly matched their personalities and made the photos truly feel like them. There are exceptions to every rule, and this was one!

We walked along the water behind the cottage and along the rocky lakeshore. You wouldn’t know it from the pictures, but the bugs were absolutely crazy! But Hanna and Brandon kept smiling and goofing around. They had the best time, and so did I.

As an Oswego native, I truly believe that Lake Ontario sunsets are the best, and I never get sick of experiencing one! The golden light on this evening was perfection. I will always say yes to sunset engagement photos by the lake!

We finished things up with a few shots of Hanna’s antique ring by the harbor. Brandon’s parents were so gracious in letting us use their property for the session. I can’t wait for Hanna and Brandon’s wedding this October!
