Facetime Engagement Session, Syracuse NY Photographer, Katlyn + Michael

I’ve got the cutest Facetime Engagement session on the blog today to share with you!

Katie, who was my roommate in my senior year of college, and her fiance recently moved to North Carolina from Buffalo. They got engaged in January while they were on a trip to Germany, and I was so excited when they reached out to me to capture their engagement! And would you believe it if I told you this was actually the first time they’ve had a photoshoot together after 11 years together? It was! Since COVID hit, we decided to have fun and do a Facetime session until we could safely do an in person engagement session.

If you are wanting to do a facetime session, I’ve got a few Pro tips for you:

  • Have your couple buy a phone tripod if they don’t have one. It makes taking the photos so much easier on the clients end of things.

  • Have your couple send you photos of their home. Tell them to shoot from a window with the window behind them so you can see how the natural light floods their home.

  • Have your couple send you photos of the outfit they are thinking about wearing so you can help coordinate them with their space.

  • Chose a time to shoot based on when they had nice light in their home.

  • Use the back camera for better quality images. I was taking pictures through FaceTime the entire time and the back of phone camera is a much higher camera then the selfie side.

I did a couple of facetime sessions during the COVID-19 pandemic while we were under a stay in place order and it was a great alternative to being able to see my couples in person and hang out with them more while we wait for the day we can do their in person engagement photos.

Facetime Engagement sessions are a fun way to get some photos together to document a special time while you wait for your bigger engagement session, and during quarantine, it’s a great option to capture photos of the two of you enjoying life together.

This was only part one of their engagement session, look forward to the in person part 2 in the future!
