Extended Family Session Tips, Syracuse, NY Photography

There is something so special about choosing to do an extended family session. This family reached out to me so they could have everyone together over Thanksgiving photographed!

Today I wanted to share my 5 biggest tips when choosing to do an extended family session!

1. Pick one central location. This family chose to have pictures taken at the grandparent’s house of the family. They had plenty of room for their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren to join!

2. Coordinate outfits! I always recommend coordinating over matching outfits, and it can be easy to select clothing with one or two colors and a neutral. As you can see they stuck to a small handful of solid colors for their clothing - blues, greens, black, khaki, with a pop of pink!

3. Determine different backdrops! They decided to do some outdoors in the backyard and then some indoors on the covered deck and in the living room as we dodged the rain.

4. Get variations of all the family groupings! I always get entire family pictures, individual families, couples, and children too.

5. Most of all, have fun! Bring something unique into the pictures. This family had a secret announcement that they wanted to wait to share. :)

I know this year has been wild, but I would love to photograph more of these family sessions!

Did these tips help? Want to book a session? Shoot me a message and let me know!!
